A legacy of bakers and pastry chefs in Girona
The founder, Julià Castelló i Moré, born in Rabós d'Empordà, moved to Girona at a very young age, there he learned the baker's trade. Married to Carme Pericot i Romagós, they opened their bakery in 1898 in the Mercadal neighborhood. This marked the beginning of a lineage of bakers and pastry chefs that has been passed down from parents to children. Taking over, Lluis Castelló and Sabina Viguera endured the Spanish Civil War and struggled to keep the business afloat. Julià Castelló and Viguera, with his wife, Maria Teresa Pérez, “Maite,” the great matriarch of Can Castelló, gave the business a boost by adding a pastry shop in the 1960s. It quickly became a landmark pastry shop in the city of Girona. Julià Castelló Pérez took over the business... The Castelló family has over 125 years of history, and we continue to work in our craft.
